Sanquin Research performs basic, applied, and clinically oriented research in the field of blood and blood transfusion. Our research is focussed on haematology, blood coagulation, immunology, cellular therapies and donor studies. Sanquin offers an international, competitive, multidisciplinary research environment with state-of-the-art facilities.
With over 200 colleagues, our focus is on both fundamental and applied research. We are interested in meeting ambitious researchers with training in life sciences, cell biology, biochemistry, or health sciences.
Sanquin Blood Supply Foundation is responsible for the blood supply in the Netherlands, and is affiliated to the University of Amsterdam and other universities in the Netherlands.

| Developmental biology is one of the most exciting parts of modern biological research, with the main research question: How does a fertilized egg develop into a whole organism?. An important part of developmental biology is stem cell research. Molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry and more recently genomics and bioinformatics are used to resolve research questions related to developmental biology. Much of this research is done by use of model organisms, such as mice, zebrafish and nematode worms. The research is fundamental in nature, but there are clear links to biomedical research.
The Hubrecht Institute is located on De Uithof, next to the sports complex, well equipped with all facilities for modern biological research and is headed by Prof. Hans Clevers. It is the center of excellence in development biology research on the model organisms mentioned before.
